GYROKINESIS®

The GYROKINESIS® method is a movement method that gently works the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original, and unique movement practice that offers similar benefits also derived from Yoga, Tai Chi, gymnastics, and dance.

The GYROKINESIS® method is practiced in group or private classes under the instruction of a certified GYROKINESIS® Trainer, and can also be practiced at home.

Contact us directly to reserve your spot for a class. There are limited spaces to prevent overcrowding and to ensure that everyone can enjoy the class to their fullest potential.

Can anyone try this?      The Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods are both highly adaptable, making them accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Accomplished athletes and dancers, college students, baby boomers, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.

The GYROTONIC® Method

Tara training with Katie

The human body is designed to work as one harmonious system, to follow arching and spiraling paths of motion, and to transition from one movement to the next smoothly and efficiently. The Gyrotonic work includes uniquely designed equipment that is a highly adjustable weight and pulley system that can be customized to fit each person’s physique and ability. In a Gyrotonic session, each movement flows seamlessly into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. Rhythmic repetitions correspond with your breathing and carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, flexibility, and strength.

The Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methods are complementary exercise methods that fall under one umbrella- the Gyrotonic Expansion System.  Developed by Juliu Horvath, an ethnic Hungarian professional dancer from Romania who suffered a series of debilitating injuries during his dance career. The Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Methods were developed as a way to heal himself and regain his strength and agility.

Both Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercise sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions, with corresponding breath. Each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength, and flexibility.

Tips for First time Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Clients…

01 : Drink water! Hydrate, more than you think, always.

02 : Just relax and breathe, don’t worry about making it perfect. Trust your body’s instincts and have fun.

03 : Wear private but loose clothes so your skin and body are less restricted.

04 : Practice or write notes within 24 hours for best and most memory of the work.

What is Gyrotonic Expansion System?
It’s shorten for the Gyrotonic Expansion System®. Within this movement system we have two parts; with a machines guidance and resistance, known as Gyrotonic and without the machines, known as Gyrokinesis.

When did you become a trainer of the GXS?
I became a licensed trainer for Gyrotonic in 2009 and for Gyrokinesis in 2011.

Tell us about your training background?
I took the Rejuvenation Course in Germany with the creator Juliu Horvath in 2013. Before that time I enjoyed my time with Authorized Master Trainers Erika Hassan and Lucrezia Caricola (Gyrokinesis), Billy Macagnone (Gyrotoner, Archway, Pre-Training, JSB), Sebastian Plettenberg , Clyde Rae Jolie-Ashe, and Young-ah Kim (Gyrotonic).  There are so many wonderful top trainers across the globe and I felt it was important to have a variety to my training. I enjoyed my time with Master Trainer Emily Smith in NYC, Master Trainer Megan McLauren in South Africa and the Gyrotonic application for Golf with GPA/Gyrotonic instructor Dave Rasmussen. Recently, working with Alicia Head (Gyrokinesis Spinal Essentials) and Paul Horvath (Applications for the Shoulder Girdle) reminded me how valuable this work is for retraining old injuries and preventing future ones. I ask you, “What kind of life do you want to live? Life quality, the ability to move around is key. What we do and don’t do is an influence on that. If you haven’t given Gyrotonic a try, do it today.”

What do you love most about the work?
There is so much to love about it! From the studios perspective, I enjoy the expression on my clients face when they feel a positive shift. I can see changes in a client by how they move around the studio, even when they haven’t. They are generally happier and ready for more explorations of the work. Many share how it is helping in their day to day life and life choices. From a personal perspective, I feel the changes in my body and therefore my life. This work guides me to work intelligence, working smarter not harder. The sport of dance is very physical on the body and when I don’t cross train with Gyrotonic my joints feel compressed and my muscles ache often. I am grateful to help as many clients as I can while also helping my body recover.

What’s your biggest challenge?
Getting my clients to practice their “homework” or we say “homeplay”. Nothing will happen without practice. However, I am increasingly impressed as more clients return to boast they have been adding and remembering and noticing a massive difference.
